Asking the Universe
                          connections to everything

An affirmation is a statement said with confidence about a perceived truth. The Law of Attraction uses this fundamental declaration as a vital tool in self-empowerment. It says “You are what you think.” If you think you are not good enough to achieve something then you will probably not achieve it. If you want to achieve it, then you must believe that you will. Better yet, you must believe that you are already in the process of achieving it.

This is where affirmations come in. An affirmation tells your subconscious and your entire Universe about a new perception you have of yourself. By repeating your affirmation daily, it doesn't take long before your new perception is a natural part of you.

There have been thousands of articles written about affirmations, so we won’t rehash them here. We have chosen a few helpful sites that go into great detail and you can find the links for them at the bottom of this page. What follows are the main things to keep in mind when creating an affirmation.

For instance...

"I make effective affirmations."
"I attract people naturally."
"I attract wealth in every part of my life."
"I can see the positive in every situation."

Make your affirmation simple. Affirmations that are too complex or that tend to ramble don’t have the same punch as a simple, direct statement. You want it to be easy for your subconscious to snap it up and make it part of you. Be as specific as possible.

Make it personal. This is all about you. So you might be a very humble person, but here you need to think only about yourself. Therefore when you make an affirmation refer to yourself in the first person. Use the pronouns “I” and “me” instead of “you” or “we.” Making an affirmation about other people can not work, because they are the ones who need to make affirmations about themselves.

Make it positive. We are what we think. An affirmation is going to send a message to your subconscious and your entire Universe, so make it a positive message. Phrase it in a positive way. If you repeat to yourself many times that you do not like something then, in effect, your subconscious will link you to that thing you do not like. Instead it is far better to affirm something that you really like and let your subconscious link you to it.

Make it believable. Without putting any limits on your ambition, your affirmation should reflect something that is humanly possible. Most of us would love to be able to fly, but that isn't going to happen. Most of us would love to win the lottery, but our lottery ticket has the same chance as all the other tickets no matter how many times we affirm that "we have won." If you are just beginning your career and your goal is to reach the top of your profession then you are aware that there are many steps involved in getting from entry level to master. An affirmation is about what is going on in your life right now, not what might happen in twenty years. So choose a step, choose the next step. You might say "I am confident in my math skills" or "I get excellent grades in math" rather than "I am the Mathematics Chair at M.I.T."

Make it about “now!” Always use the present tense so your Universe understands that the process has already begun. If your message to your subconscious says “I will be wealthy” or "I want to be loved" then what your subconscious hears is “I will be wealthy someday in the future” or "I will always want to be loved." When you phrase it this way, your statement refers to something that will happen someday. Rather phrase it like "A little exercise makes me feel great."

Put it in writing. Write your affirmation down. Committing your statement to a page makes it easier to remember and is a powerful way to make an impression on your subconscious. After you have written it down repeat it to yourself. Say it out loud if convenient. Does it feel right? If not, change it right away and repeat the process. If you write and say your affirmation every day for a month it will become part of you and you will experience the power of affirmations. You will be in command of attracting the Universe.
